Seiko SKX007 Review: The Best Value Dive Watch/ June 25, 2020
The Seiko SKX007 is an inexpensive watch made of quality parts and produced by a well-respected brand. Seiko has an outstanding reputation for creating watches that are durable, stylish and accurate.
So how does the Seiko SKX007 stack up? In this review, we’ll be going over some unique elements of the watch, so you walk away with a better understanding of the watch’s quality.
Case of the Seiko SKX007
This watch is comfortable to wear, yet it doesn’t sit too high off of your wrist. It provides a good level of water resistance so you can wear it worry-free in that regard. In terms of the design, the case is rather soft, with polished sides and a fine brushed finish on the lugs. One downside is that while the crown is large on this watch, the crown guards have a tall height that can make it difficult to operate.
On the top of the case, Seiko uses their proprietary Hardlex material. This material offers protection from shattering, but it is more prone to scratches than sapphire is.
Seiko SKX007 Case: Important Specs
- 45.5mm case width
- 22mm lug width
- 46mm lug to lug length
- 13.25mm thickness
- ISO-rated, 200m water resistance
Dial and Hands
The Seiko SKX007 has white date wheels and a black dial. The watch features rounded white hour circles except for the 12 o’clock position and the three o’clock position. Overall, the dial and hands of the watch provide a minimal and professional feel and make it easy to read the date and the time.
While the watch subdues most of the dial in terms of color, there is a slight line that reads DIVERS 200m in red above the six o’clock position of the watch. This provides a pleasant contrast from the minimalistic feel of the watch through the small addition of color.
There are only four essential moving parts on this watch. Some key features of the watch include:
- Quickset day/date display
- Seiko’s magic lever system
- 21 jewels
- 21,600 bph beat rate
For a relatively inexpensive watch, the movement is reliable. One problem however that users have reported is the accuracy of the watch. On any day, the watch can run behind by 20 seconds or ahead by 40 seconds. The movement however can be fine-tuned to achieve a greater level of accuracy.
An Exceptional Mechanical Watch For the Price
The Seiko SKX007 is a well-rounded watch that provides you with high-quality for a reasonable price (circa $200). The watch is versatile and can pair with different straps to match different outfits and unique occasions.
You can also modify parts of the watch to achieve a different aesthetic if you don’t like how it looks out of the box. This alone makes the watch an excellent base product to achieve the watch that you want with distinct individual parts.
It is also worth noting that if the aesthetic of this watch is not for you, there are other variations made by Seiko that carry a similar price tag.
