Jaeger-LeCoultre Luxury Watches Prices

Established: 1833

Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre SA, though it is more commonly known as simply Jaeger LeCoultre, is a luxury clock and watch producer that is based in Le Sentier, Switzerland. This company is a fully owned subsidiary of Richemont, the Swiss luxury group, and it has been since the year 2000. Through its inventions, movements, and patents, which there are an abundance of, Jaeger LeCoultre is one of Richemont’s top tier brands, and a very highly regarded manufacturer within the watchmaking community. In addition to this, many notable figures have been known to wear Jaeger LeCoultre wrist watches.

One of Jaeger LeCoultre’s well known pieces is the Reverso. The short and simple name of this wrist watch comes from a Latin translation meaning “I turn around.” This name is suitable due to the case’s ability to swivel and turn within its carrier. This function protects the watch glass and allows the Reverso to endure the rough and hard hits of a polo game, which is what it was originally designed and created for. The Reverso timepiece line consists of multiple models, notably including the Reverso Classic Large Duoface Small Second, the Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute, and the Reverso Tribute Small Seconds Burgundy Red. The Reverso is still being manufactured to this day.

Another one of Jaeger LeCoultre’s most iconic timepieces is the Futurematic, which they released in the year 1951. The original Futurematic was the world’s very first completely automatic watch. However, between the years of 1951 and 1958, it is said that nearly fifty two thousand five hundred variations of this piece were produced. It is also suspected that the extensive Futurematic project took a serious toll on the financial well being of the Jaeger LeCoultre company, and that it has had trouble recovering since this.

There are many concerns within the luxury watchmaking industry having to do with the sourcing of rare natural materials and manufacturing transparency. However, Jaeger LeCoultre ranked rather highly on the World Wide Fund for Nature (or the W.W.F. 's) ranking of the environmental friendliness of Swiss jewelry and watch manufacturers. Though they are not completely transparent and still have environmental issues and progress to make, Jaeger LeCoultre was rated as “Upper Midfield,” which is a fairly average rating. However, this puts them in one of the top spots on the list, above other more well known watchmaking brands such as Rolex.

Some of the notable individuals that have worn Jaeger LeCoultre timepieces include:

  • Amelia Earhart
  • Jay Z
  • Charlie Chaplin
  • Elizabeth II
  • Leonardo DiCaprio
  • Benedict Cumberbatch
  • Bill Clinton
  • Edward VIII
  • Lyndon B. Johnson

Overall, Jaeger LeCoultre is a very highly regarded luxury watchmaker. They are known for their notable models and abundance of patents and innovations. They are also a top tier brand within the Richemont group, which houses many other notable brands and manufacturers. Though it has been said that the company has dealt with financial issues, they are a reliable and historic watch manufacturer that holds much respect within the watchmaking industry.
